Vintage 1950s Spats Pattern (1101)
$7.99Price
Spats ... also known as gaiters. They started out being a functional part of our wardrobe, keeping splashes (or "spatters") of mud and water off our shoes. As time passed, their cold, plain look took on a more fashionable attitude while still serving to protect our footwear, as well as cover up ugly shoelaces and scuffs.
This vintage 1950s pattern will teach you how to make a pair of womens spats and is perfect for the beginning sewer. Be creative and use fabrics and embellishments you adore. Although the pattern calls for buttonholes, for a faster make-up job, you can use velcro -- which they didn't have at the time this pattern was printed. Instead of buckles, consider using elastic.
If you're making spats for a man, you will need to increase the pattern size in accordance with your wearer's foot size.
INCLUDES: Suggested materials, pattern pieces and full instructions for completing.
