Originally published in the early 1960s, this book is third in a series of four that will show you how to make both the playful and glamorous hats of the 1960s as well as millinery staple designs like the cloche, derby and toque using premade buckram frames. Additionally, these hats can be made by recovering vintage hats in need of repair and/or a color/fabric upgrade. Twelve hats are included:
- fashion duet -- a jockey cap (with instructions for making a
matching scarf)
- spectator in stripes -- a forward-pitched profile rimmed hat
molded in chenille fabric
- late day toque -- created using lame, the soft folds of this
hat encircle the sides ending with a contrasting taffeta bow
that can be worn in back or front
- head hugging helmet -- suede cloth clings to the helmet that
hugs the head and ties under the chin or at the side
- cone-shaped toque -- tailored in suede and sporting an arched
cuff
- oriental dome -- a precise and chic hat created in a jersey
fabric and circled in an all-in-one fashion
- leopard profile brim -- a profile hat with a high crown and
feminine bib
- turban -- an elegantly draped style
- satin cloche -- a cloche hat with high tapered crown and softly
draped band
- bicorne -- a derby crown on top of a bicorne breton brim worn
off the face (includes instructions for making a matching ring
collar and ascot)
Text instructions and illustrations detail measurements, folds, sewing guides and trim placement. Fabric suggestions, yardage, trim quantity -- everything is clearly written for these easy-to-make hats. Colors, fabrics and trims are only suggestions, you can choose any combination that suits your style.
