IMPORTANT: If you have a Haslam Chart (similar to a dressmaking/tailor's square) or the two Foundation Drafting Books, you only need this book to create the patterns for the fashions shown. If you do not have a Haslam Chart or the two Foundation Drafting Books, Bramcost Publications has published the Chart and Foundation Drafting Books in a book titled "Haslam System of Dresscutting -- Vintage Pattern Making for 1920s, 30s, 40s and 50s Fashions (Haslam Chart and Foundation Draftings)" which can be found in our Sewing category.
Originally published in the 1950s, Haslam's Book of Draftings No. 21 from the 1950s series contains over 25 draftings for creating authentic vintage garments including:
- 14 dresses
- 2 beach dresses
- shorts
- bolero
- 4 suits
- 4 coats
The Haslam System consists of three major components needed to complete any of the beautiful vintage patterns:
(1) Books of Draftings
(2) Foundation Drafting Book
(3) Haslam Chart
The 1940s-1950s Books of Draftings require the use of two separate Foundation Drafting Books (the original Foundation Drafting Book and Foundation Book 2) containing the foundation drafting instructions that are the base for all Haslam designs. If you have a Haslam Chart (similar to a dressmaking/tailor's square) or the two Foundation Drafting Books, you only need this book to create the patterns for the fashions shown.
