12 New Hats and How You Can Make Them -- Vintage Hat Designs with Patterns (Book 1)
by Hats Magazine

{softcover, 24 pages, 7x10, 2009, ISBN: 1936049171}

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Originally published in the early 1960s, this book is first in a series of four that will show you how to make both the playful and glamorous hats of the 1960s as well as millinery staple designs like the halo, pillbox, and cloche by sewing the hat together or using premade buckram frames (depending on the pattern and style). Additionally, a few of these hats can be made by recovering vintage hats in need of repair and/or a color/fabric upgrade as long as you have a structurally sound buckram frame to work with. Twelve hats are included:
- draped turban -- satin and velvet are combined to create this
simple-to-make hat
- kerchief cap -- black stitched velvet with fold over pleats and
a taffeta-faced back bow
- high shine halo roller -- a shallow crown created from black
straw banding set off by a lift of turquoise velvet
- pert-n-pretty pillbox -- a timeless flattering hat, this hat is
rendered in straw cloth or soft leather, velvet satin, brocade
or jersey with contrasting trim
- beret a la chanel -- an understated chic hat created with
lightweight ice pink felt skirting (or any color/fabric of your
choice)
- rippled brim cloche -- fantastic pleats and lush drama, this
hat is made with taffeta, organdy, felt skirting or velvet
- packable pixie -- created with felt skirting and banded in
leather with a button accent, this hat is soft and flexible and
can be rolled and reshaped to fit your mood
- trellis holiday -- easy to make, this hat combines pretty pink
flowers and green silk leaves on a shocking pink velvet trellis
with matching bow
- rippled-look casual -- camel velour body with stitched brim and
sectioned telescope crown is simple to make and gives the
wearer an easy, breezy look
